Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Review

In this detailed review, I will be sharing my experience with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic that I have been wearing for a few days. The watch has a similar dimension to the previous Galaxy Watch 3, but it has an upgraded chipset, additional health features, and cosmetic changes. The Bluetooth model starts at $379 in the US and £369 in the UK, while the LTE version costs $429 and £409. The box comes with a smartwatch, paperwork, and a magnetic USB charger.

Design and Display

The watch has a stainless steel body finished in black, a 5 ATM IP68 waterproof rating, and military standard 810G durability. The 1.4-inch super AMOLED display has a screen resolution of 450 by 450, higher than the Galaxy Watch 3, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The rotating bezel is back, which provides a satisfying feeling when you use it.

Performance

The watch is powered by the Exynos W920, a dual-core clocked at 1.18 GHz, with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It has Bluetooth version 5, built-in GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi, and NFC. It runs Wear OS powered by Samsung, and the OS looks great on the watch.

Connectivity

The Bluetooth model needs to connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth to sync all health data, while the LTE model allows you to leave your phone at home and still receive phone calls and messages. The Bluetooth model has better battery life, and you can still make and receive Bluetooth phone calls as long as you have your phone nearby.

Notifications and Calls

You can reply directly on the watch to all notifications from WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. The watch has a built-in speaker and microphone that provides crystal clear phone calls, but you cannot take WhatsApp phone calls directly on the watch. The watch is compatible only with Samsung smartphones, and full functionality is available within Samsung’s ecosystem.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Review

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is not compatible with iPhones, which is a huge shame. It has a slightly larger battery size than the Galaxy Watch 3, but the battery life is not as good due to the new Wear OS. The watch dimensions are 45.5 millimeters in diameter, 11 millimeters thick, and weigh 76.4 grams. The straps are made from silicone and are removable. You have 20 millimeter straps that are designed to be water-friendly. The watch is comfortable to wear and has a rotating bezel and stainless steel finish.

Battery Life

The battery life on the Galaxy Watch 4 is not great. With normal usage, the watch will not last for two days as quoted on the Samsung website. The watch will last 18 hours with light use, and if the always-on display is turned on, the battery will last for 10–12 hours. The battery will need to be charged every night, and if you plan on downloading apps or watch faces, the battery will drain quickly.

Watch Faces and Features

The Galaxy Watch 4 has a large number of watch faces built-in, and you can download more from the Play Store. There are also watch face customizable apps like Facer. The watch faces have a 450 by 450 resolution and look great on the watch. The watch features two buttons, a power button and a back button, and a speaker located under the side. The watch supports wireless charging, and the charger is the same one that comes with the Galaxy Watch 3.

Smartphone App

The Galaxy Wearable app shows the watch face at the top and lets you know the battery life. You can customize the watch faces and choose character clock type complications. There are also apps, tiles, and quick panels available.
